With this Sunnae Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, the prestigious Tenuta del Priore restores this important, widespread, and sometimes mistreated white grape variety to its full potential.

The producer has made significant changes to vine cultivation, restoring the low yield per hectare of the past, limiting vigor in new plantings, and implementing drastic pruning, which has resulted in a significant improvement in the ripening of the grapes from this slightly aromatic but highly intense vineyard. From the first bottling in 2005 to the present day, these changes have translated into a constant and evident evolution and a remarkable improvement in quality.

Tasting notes: It is straw-yellow in color. On the nose, it evokes very delicate aromas of white fruits and flowers with elegant mineral notes. It is fresh and mineral on the palate, evolving well in the bottle.

Food pairing: rustic cheese pinsas, seafood risotto, grilled fish, and grilled vegetables.

Year: 2023

Grape varieties: 100% Trebbiano

Provenance: Collecorvino, Pescara, Abruzzo

Orientation and altitude: Southwest, 250m above mean sea level.

Soil type: Silt and clay, rich in morainic stone, sometimes calcareous.

Vinification: The bunches, hand-picked and selected, undergo gentle pressing followed by static cold decantation for approximately 18 hours. Fermentation, conducted with selected yeasts, occurs at a constant temperature of approximately 18–20°C and lasts at least two weeks. After two rackings in quick succession, the wine rests in stainless steel tanks on the lees until the end of January. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out to entirely preserve the freshness and intensity of the Trebbiano. Bottling takes place in the spring of the year following the harvest.

Tenuta del Priore

Tenuta del Priore is a family winery from the Abruzzo region that produces classic Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, and Passerina wines from 53 hectares of vineyards near the village of Collecorvino, in the province of Pescara. Three-quarters of the property is dedicated to Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The vineyards are located in an elevated area overlooking the Adriatic Sea, on calcareous clay, morainic, and silty soils, rich in stones (limestone), between the Pescara Hills, near Pescara and the Adriatic Sea.

Its main Montepulciano vineyard, 4.5 hectares, called Filiani in honor of the previous owner, is only 3 km from the beach, at an altitude of approximately 270 meters above sea level, on a chain of silty and calcareous hills near the village of Città Sant’Angelo, within the Colline Teramo DOCG zone. Fabrizio Mazzocchetti is the latest family member to take responsibility for the property, along with his father, Antonio.

Fabrizio's first harvest was in 2001, and since then, he has worked hard to refine viticulture and winemaking. Since 2017, Fabrizio has dedicated himself to bringing more clarity, rigor, and definition to his Montepulciano Col del Mondo. With the Campotino range, they offer quality wines at affordable prices, from young vineyards, cultivated in a Guyot system, in cooler locations and with lighter soils. The white wines (Trebbiano, Pecorino, Passerina) and the Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo rosé are masterfully crafted to provide a clear fruity expression and a strong sense of place, without the use of wood.

The Col del Mondo range, created by Fabrizio at the beginning of this century, is divided between the Sunnae, Fattore, and Kerrias labels and comes from older vineyards, 21 years old, cultivated in a Guyot system, planted in more favorable white calcareous clay and morainic soils, overlooking the Adriatic.
