Sunnae Passerina is a fresh and mineral white wine of great intensity and aromatic complexity. Produced in limited quantities by the prestigious Tenuta del Priore winery with grapes from the estate's own vineyards.
Tenuta del Priore began its production with Abruzzo's most classic grape variety, Montepulciano, seeking constant quality improvement by using new and different viticultural and winemaking technologies at each stage of the production process, always respecting the essence of the grape variety and the unique character of each wine, as is the case with this magnificent Passerina, which ages very well in the bottle.
Tasting notes: Straw-yellow in colour, tending towards gold with bottle ageing, the nose evokes delicate aromas of yellow fruits, spices and flowers. With a good structure, it is simultaneously fresh and mineral on the palate.
Food pairing: Seafood, sushi, tartares and grilled vegetables.
Vintage: 2023
Grape varieties: 100% Passerina
Origin: Collecorvino, Pescara, Abruzzo
Orientation and altitude: Southwest, 200m above sea level.
Soil type: Silt and clay, rich in moraine stone, sometimes limestone.
Winemaking: The bunches are selected and harvested by hand at the end of September. Fermentation takes place in steel vats at a controlled temperature (between 16ºC and 18ºC). The absence of malolactic fermentation preserves the fresh and mineral profile of the grape variety. This is followed by a tank aging for approximately 4 months on fine lees. Bottling is carried out in the spring of the year following the harvest.
Alcohol content: 13.5%
Serving temperature: Should be served between 8ºC and 10ºC
About Tenuta del Priore
Tenuta del Priore is a family winery in the Abruzzo region that produces classic Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, and Passerina wines from 53 hectares of vineyards near the village of Collecorvino, in the province of Pescara. Three quarters of the property is dedicated to Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The vineyards are located in an elevated area overlooking the Adriatic Sea, on calcareous clay, moraine, and silty soils, rich in stones (limestone), between the Pescara Hills, near Pescara and the Adriatic Sea.
Its main Montepulciano vineyard, covering 4.5 hectares, named Filiani after the previous owner, is only 3 km from the beach, at an altitude of approximately 270 meters above sea level, on a chain of silty and calcareous hills near the village of Città Sant’Angelo, within the Colline Teramo DOCG area. Fabrizio Mazzocchetti is the latest family member to take responsibility for the property, alongside his father, Antonio.
Fabrizio's first harvest was in 2001, and since then, he has worked hard to refine viticulture and winemaking. From 2017, Fabrizio has dedicated himself to bringing more clarity, rigor, and definition to his Montepulciano Col del Mondo. With the Campotino range, they offer quality wines at affordable prices, sourced from young vineyards, cultivated using the Guyot system, in cooler locations with lighter soils. The white wines (Trebbiano, Pecorino, Passerina) and the Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo rosé are expertly crafted to provide a clear fruity expression and a strong sense of place, without the use of wood.
The Col del Mondo line, created by Fabrizio at the beginning of this century, is divided between the Sunnae, Fattore, and Kerrias labels and comes from older vineyards, 21 years old, cultivated using the Guyot system, planted in more favorable white calcareous clay and moraine soils, overlooking the Adriatic.
