Lampo was the nickname of Ernesto, Federico Vanni's paternal grandfather, who is the current head of San Felo. Ernesto, born in 1912, was a buttero, a mounted cowboy, who appears on the bottle label.

This Lampo is a Morellino di Scansano DOCG, a designation reserved for the best Italian wines, produced essentially with carefully selected Sangiovese grapes. The vineyards are planted in lands exposed to mistral winds. It can be aged, evolving very well in the bottle.

Tasting notes:

«Bright ruby red, medium intensity, with slight lightening at the rim. Inviting aroma of crisp cherries and blueberries, violets, with a slight hint of pepper. Smooth on the palate, with firm tannins and a fruity, ripe finish.» (Falstaff, Othmar Kiem & Simon Staffler, 08.09.2023).

Food pairing: an ideal wine to accompany main courses such as ossobuco, oxtail, ragus, and aged cheeses.

Origin: Pagliarelli di Sotto, in the municipality of Magliano in Toscana, province of Grosseto, Tuscany.

Year: 2022

Grape varieties: 90% Sangiovese and 10% Ciliegiolo.

Exposure and altitude: northwest, 150m to 180m above mean sea level.

Soil type: sandy-loam soil, quite homogeneous.

Vinification: the grapes are hand-picked after reaching perfect phenolic ripeness. In the cellar, the grapes were gently destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a constant temperature of 30°C. After skin separation, the wine was immediately transferred to second and third-use barrels and barriques, where it aged for 15 to 18 months. This is followed by a period in bottle at controlled temperature before commercialisation begins.

Alcohol content: 13.5%

Serving temperature: should be served between 16ºC and 18ºC

San Felo

The passion for grape cultivation and rural traditions, combined with the desire to actively contribute to the promotion of the Maremma Toscana region, led the Vanni family, a certified Maremmana family, to fulfil a dream at the beginning of this century: the San Felo winery, with approximately 74 hectares of land, including 54 hectares of vineyards.
Wisdom, experience, and patience, along with investment in new techniques, are the factors that have allowed San Felo to produce wines that enhance the viticultural heritage of Maremma Toscana passed down from generation to generation.

Staying true to tradition, the winery cultivates Sangiovese and Vermentino to produce Morellino di Scansano DOCG and Maremma Toscana DOC, respectively. It also cultivates international grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Viognier, to which it gives maximum expression. It is committed to producing a limited quantity of high-quality wine.
